Cleaning using more natural ingredients!

Natural cleaning atlantaIf you were told that you could get your whole house cleaned with a few things from the fridge or the larder, what would you say? Well, in fact, it is not far from the truth! Using things like Lemon, salt, vinegar and baking powder, you can get most of your home clean! Depending on the state of it, the whole house is pretty much covered by these natural foodstuffs that have great cleaning powers! Realistically the main place that will be difficult with these things is the oven, but if you clean that regularly enough, then there is no reason why you can’t maintain a decent level of cleanliness throughout! A few tips and tricks could be useful to get you on your way…

For a start, why are these things useful for cleaning? Well, lemon is acidic, which means that it kills bacteria, and cuts through grease. It also has a wonderful smell that makes the house feel fresh and clean even through the nose! Vinegar is also acidic, and whilst it may not smell as nice as lemon, can be used to absorb smells itself. Baking soda can also absorb smells, but it is mainly useful for being a carbonated reactant, which will speed up cleaning processes by making a fizzy effect as you clean. Salt is great for scrubbing away at harder dirt, and will have certain sanitizing qualities when it is dissolved in water. Olive oil can be used to treat wood and other materials that need polish and oiling, though in all honesty it is likely just as expensive as the normal products that you would use for such a job!natural cleaning atlanta

Try using a spray bottle of half water, half vinegar instead of your normal house hold cleaning product. You will no doubt find that you need a little more of it, but the fact is, it works just as well, and will cost you a fair amount less! For best results, use white vinegar that smells less strongly. Add lemon juice to the mix in order to get it all smelling a little nicer, and leave those surfaces looking fresh and clean! You will find that this recipe can be used on many surfaces, but if you are worried as to whether it can be used on a material that you have in your home, it is worth checking up online; you don’t want to ruin a nice countertop!

With regards to the bathroom, you will no doubt find that adding baking soda to the vinegar and lemon, with a little less water, makes a great fizzy cream cleaner. You should experiment with the amounts of each that you use, to find the mix that works best for you. Tape a sandwich bag round the taps in the bathroom and fill them with vinegar, seal and leave them overnight. In the morning, you should be able to simply rinse the limescale from them, as the acid will eat right through it. The same goes for the shower head; detach it and leave it in a bowl of vinegar, you will get the same results!

In the kitchen try adding a bowl of baking soda to the fridge to get rid of any smells, and if your clothes are a bit whiffy, then try putting a bowl of vinegar and hot water in a room with them, they should be smelling fine after a night or so!

There are tones of ways in which you can use different products to get the desired effect, so have a look online for more ideas!

Alternative cleaning methods that may make sense in your home

Alternative Cleaning Atlanta

If you feel like the ways in which you clean are a little old hat, or you are wondering if there are different ways to do things, to speed up the process and make things easier, then you may well be right! Advances in technology, and reexamining the ways in which people did things in the past are both leading to people doing things differently in the home, and getting great results. If you are wondering about some of the different ways in which you could be cleaning your home, then you are in luck, as there are details of a few of them below!

Steam cleaning is one method of cleaning that is particularly rare in households around Britain. If you were wondering if there is a method for getting your house spotless without using too much chemical cleaner, then this is the method for you. The steam cleaning process uses extremely high temperatures and blasts steam at the surface, using a hand held appliance. The heat and pressure from the steam will break down the adhesive properties of dirt and grease, leaving the surface free for you to wipe down easily. The best thing is that you only need water to use, no more buying expensive and harmful chemical cleaning products! The issue of course is that in the place of cleaning products, you have to use a little more electricity. There may also be issues in terms of the sizes of steam cleaner that you want to get, as floor cleaning units will be too big for surfaces, and vice versa! However, as a way of sanitizing your home without too much effort, nor harmful substances, steam cannot be beaten!

Looking back in history, you will notice that cleaning has been going on for a long time, even before the chemicals that we use to clean today were discovered or invented! Back then, people relied on soap and acidic solutions to clean, and these can be used today! There is very little that cannot be cleaned with soap, whether a bucket of warm water lathered up with liquid soap for the floors, or a little dab of washing up liquid on the sponge as you wipe down the kitchen after use. You don’t really need pricy household cleaning products if you can use soap! Of course, you may need to use a little more elbow grease if you are reducing the harshness of the chemicals in your home, in which case you may want something that is similarly useful, but not too damaging to the environment or your health…Alternative cleaning Atlanta

Lemon and vinegar are great examples of this, and they are also fairly cheap and easily available. The acidic properties of both make them excellent for degreasing surfaces, and ridding your house of grime. Lemon will also leave you with a wonderful fresh scent that ensures that the house feels wonderfully clean at all times! Combining these two with products like salt and baking soda will mean that you are perfectly set to get the whole house cleaned without having to buy anything else! The carbonated nature of baking soda, and the abrasive mineral aspect of salt will help tackle the tougher parts of the house with more force than just the vinegar and lemon alone. You will find that there are thousands of recipes online as to how you can utilize these products in different ways for various different jobs.

Slightly strange cleaning tips and tricks

House Cleaning AtlantaWhen it comes to cleaning the house, there are the set ways in which everyone seems to get their place sorted. Household cleaners come in various shapes and sizes, but will all contain similar ingredients, and do the same job. If you can break away form these cleaners, then you may well find that you save a lot of money as well as reduce your impact on the environment by reducing the amount of chemicals that you flush into the water table. Essentially, the best way to be cleaning without these chemical cleaners tends to revolve around using natural products that have certain cleaning properties. Lemon and vinegar for instance contain high levels of acid, that eat away at dirt, but tend to be gentle enough to leave most surfaces unharmed. Baking soda is carbonated when wet, which makes the cleaning action more vigorous, adding energy to the chemical reactions involved in breaking down the dirt’s bonds. Cheap cola is also highly acidic and when left for a while can take the rust off of a nail, leaving it shiny, which is great for cleaning, but terrible news for your teeth if you are a cola fan! Have a look through the following tips and tricks that use some outlandish products, and see if there are any that may help you clean in a different way to usual…

In the kitchen, you can replace your surface cleaner with two parts lemon, one part vinegar and dilute if you like. The vinegar and lemon cut through grease, and disinfect surfaces, killing germs on contact. This is a natural and friendly way to get rid of germs that is just as effective as any chemical cleaner.Atlanta Natural Cleaning
If you have a lot of limescale clogging up your kettle, then chuck the used up chunks of lemon from other cleaning used into it, and fill the rest up with water so that all of the limescale is covered. Once you have boiled it, leave the solution to do it’s work over night, and you should find that you can rinse the limescale out!
The same technique works for microwaves! If you are tired of scraping about to clean the inside of your microwave, then place a cup full of water and lemon juice in there and cook on high for a minute. The acidic evaporation will degrease the interior walls of the machine, making it really easy to clean!
The bathroom has many areas that are particularly difficult to clean, and one of the worst are the taps! You will find that taping a bag full of vinegar around the tap and leaving it over night will leave your taps easy to wipe clean. They will sparkle extremely easily, as the acid breaks down the limescale, much like the lemon in the kettle!
Baking soda and lemon forms a great cream cleaner for the bath, as does adding vinegar.
Try pouring cola down the toilet and leave it for half an hour before you give it a scrub with a toilet brush and flush it. You should find that it shines up nicely! Use neat vinegar around the surfaces of the toilet as a softer but effective bleach, which will kill the nasty germs about it!
Try pouring vinegar, baking soda and boiling water down a blocked plughole; the fizzy action combined with the acid and heat will shift tough blockages easily!
Baking soda and vinegar with a little lemon on a toothbrush, like toothpaste, will get your bathroom grouting looking great!
Try it today, you will be extremely surprised!

Green Cleaning Health Benefits

With green cleaning becoming more and more popular, a lot of people seem to be implementing it into their everyday chores on a regular basis. Thanks to warning labels and some clever pointing out by watchful people around the world we are beginning to move away from the old-fashioned and harsh chemicals and more into the world of cheaper, safer alternatives.Green Cleaning Atlanta

Cleaning is by far extremely important to all of us, as it protects us against household contaminants and other dangerous substances or organisms that may grow or gestate inside our homes. Dust mites, albeit always present are greatly diminished with regular cleaning. Mold spores and mildew can also be a problem if you’re not careful. Using harsh chemicals on the other hand can have some very negative effects over our overall health, such as causing allergies and worse. If we instead use green cleaning products we will not only help the planet, but also help ourselves.

To begin with, cleaning products have a great impact on the occupants of buildings. You can experience issues such as respiratory irritation, eye and skin irritation as well as a number of other issues that may endanger your life. Chemical reactions between different cleaners can seriously endanger your life if you’re not careful, such as bleach and ammonia creating hazardous and choking fumes with long-term damage as a result. If you remove those products from your household you will boost your overall health and promote a safer lifestyle. Regular ventilation of your home would be required in all cases, but doubly so when it comes to dealing with the traditional harsh chemicals used in most households.

Something that has to be noted is that regular and excessive exposure to chemicals on a daily basis can lead to more serious, life-threatening conditions such as cancer or neurological and reproductive disorders. In many cases we ingest, breathe in or have skin contact with such chemicals without even knowing it. They may be present in our food due to cross-contamination

Inhalation is one of the easiest ways for us to saddled in with chemical toxins. In many cases the indoor pollution levels are much worse than those outside due to many factors, such as lack of proper ventilation from a direct outside source as well as using chemicals which never leave our homes. Most people today spend a significant amount of time indoors so they are adversely affected by any issues coming from such sources. That particular poor air quality level may be to other factors, such as ozone, radon and the chemicals in fragrances, aerosol cans and even paint. When these chemicals enter the bloodstream via inhalation, they inevitably affect the body in smaller or bigger ways depending on their concentration.

green cleaning AtlantaSkin absorption is also a problem in those cases as it affects the nervous system and the skin in cases such as ammonia, bleach and other dangerous cleaning substances with toxic origins. Green cleaning products aim to improve and avoid such issues altogether, which makes them the ideal figure of our domestic and commercial cleaning efforts.

Increasing your protection of the environment through cleaning

Your contribution to the decline in the atmosphere may be small, but it takes solo efforts to combine and make big changes, so if you do not start by addressing the issues that are present in how you do things, then how will such efforts come together? In many ways there will be little that you feel is worthwhile, but you have to try at least, as otherwise you can not go on in a guilt free way! There are plenty of ways in which you can change your cleaning habits to ensure that you are not making the world a worse place for future generations, and they do not take a huge amount of effort on your part, just a change in attitude. A few pointers should help you get started with this new train of thought.house cleaning Atlanta

For a start, what kind of things do you use in your cleaning? Most households will use regular chemical based cleaners that contain harmful chemicals which get flushed into the water systems. The water systems in this country are not water tight, funnily enough, and that means that the contents of our water systems affects the water systems in the countryside. Flushing harmful chemicals into the waterways, and so in to the smaller environments of birds, plants, fish, animals and insects will cause considerable damage to those eco systems as the level of dangerous chemicals increases. You will no doubt understand that these eco systems will survive on a delicate balance of minerals and PH levels in the water that they drink and live in, so your bleach could be affecting the whole food chain in the area. The destruction of smaller habitats for animals by humans is what is killing off the bees which are so vital in our own survival, so do your part, and avoid using chemicals cleaners. These cleaners are bad for humans as well, breathing in their fumes, and getting them on your skin can lead to respiratory illness and rashes, especially in younger children. You will no doubt want to ensure that your kids are safe, even if the rest of the world is less of a problems, so it is worth finding alternatives. Try looking at eco friendly cleaning products that use plant extracts and minerals to get their cleaning done, which do not affect the chemical balance in the waterways, and will be kinder on your skin and lungs. These companies usually make their bottles from recycled, refillable bottles, which will reduce the amount of plastics that you consume as well. Not all can afford the mark up on these eco-conscious products, so have a think about how you could make your own eco-cleaner using natural ingredients like lemon, vinegar and baking soda. There are a surprising number of cleaning ‘recipes’ on the internet that are great for cleaning in the home, you just have to find the right ones for you!house cleaning Atlanta

Reducing the throw-away nature of cleaning in your home is essential as well. You will find that cleaning harnesses a lot of disposable products, simply because people want to get rid of dirt with the minimum effort. Using reusable sponges, cloths and flannels will reduce how often you throw things away, which will reduce your contribution to landfill sites across the globe. This extends to the tools that you use, which should avoid using plastics, as they are bad for the environment in both how they are produced, as well as how, and how regularly they are disposed of.

How to substitute laundry detergents – several recipes for homemade detergents with natural products

How to substitute the laundry detergentsOne of the strong trends in the last 50 years is the turning back to the nature. Nowadays, many people from all over the world are living in an eco-friendly way and have totally substituted the chemical products from the supermarkets. It is not necessary to set up a community in the wilderness to do so. Even if you live in a crowded city you can still lead an eco-friendly lifestyle. Although many of the products, produced from natural ingredients (which are the basis of the nature-friendly lifestyle) are available for purchase, you can nevertheless make them on your own in your home. In this article we will give you several recipes for one of the everyday types of detergents we have to use – the laundry detergent.

For the preparation of these detergents, almost all of the products will be natural, thus not harming nature.
All of the recipes we suggest to you can be cheaper than ordinary laundry detergent (depending on the exact brand of the detergent).

For the first recipe you will need: 3 boxes of washing soda, 1 tub of versatile stain remover, 1 big box of eco nuts and 1 box of baking soda. Mix half of the baking soda and half of the nuts and fill the food processor with the mixture. You have to end up with an evenly ground mixture. After you have finished repeat the same thing with the other half of the baking soda and the nuts. Then mix the grounded nuts and soda with the rest of the ingredients. You may use a bag of some sort or a jar, depending on what you find to be the most comfortable for you. And you are done. When you use the laundry detergent put the same amount of it into the washing machine, as the amount you usually use.

For the second type of laundry detergent you will need: 3 tablespoons of borax, the same amount of washing soda and 2 spoons of soap. Mix them and add 4 cups of boiling water. Swirl until you have even mixture. Then add a small amount of cool water and fill the mixture into a jar.

The last laundry detergent consists of the same ingredients, however, in larger quantities. The difference is that you don’t pour water at the end – just mix the ingredients.
For the next recipe you will need: 1 cup of eco nut berries, 4 cups of water and half a cup of vinegar. Boil for 30 minutes with the lid on then – for another 30 without it. After it cools fill a jar with the substance. How to substitute the laundry detergents

Think naturally – simple eco-friendly ways of cleaning the house.

House Cleaning AtlantaThere are many advantages of the eco-friendly way of living. It protects the nature and some people believe it is healthier. In this article we will discuss the alternative ways of cleaning.

Recently more and more people are changing their mind on the “traditional” detergents – the one they buy from the supermarket. Although in the last several decades there are lots of products that claim to be “bio” or “eco” and that claim to protect the nature, their production may not be entirely eco-friendly. Furthermore, most of those products are usually extremely expensive. However, there is an alternative. You can start producing the cleaning agents and detergents that you use by yourself. By saying “producing” do not understand that complicated methods of production are required. Almost all of the eco-friendly mixtures and substances can be made by you, by just using products from the supermarket and basic kitchen appliances.

One of the greatest natural detergents is the vinegar. It can be purchased from all sorts of supermarkets and grocery stores, it is inexpensive and is harmful to both the human body and the nature (since, after all, we eat it).
Vinegar is a great grease dissolvent, which can be applied everywhere in the kitchen. Usually around the oven and the microwave oven there can be greasy stains from what you’ve cooked. This holds true for the grill too. The removal of the grease is not so easy. However, if you want to make it easier for yourself to clean the greasy surfaces, just spray them with distilled vinegar and water. If the stains are more stubborn, apply the vinegar without mixing it with water. It should dissolve them in no time.

House Cleaning Atlanta
The mixture of vinegar and water is extremely useful cleaning agent, which can be applied on the glassy surfaces at your home. It is a very good choice for cleaning the windows as well.
Especially when it is still wet, mud is very hard for removing from all sorts of surfaces. Whether they will be plastic, or metal or fiberglass, we have a hard time to get rid of it. However, there is a simple solution, which also involves vinegar. Mix three parts of baking soda with one part of white distilled vinegar. Then, using a rag, dipped into the mixture, wipe off the mud from the surface you want to be cleaned. After this you may apply soapy water, if there is still some mud.
Numismatists will also find vinegar useful. It can be applied for removing the tarnished areas of the old coins. For the purpose just fill a bowl with white distilled vinegar and leave the coins overnight.

Better Life Shark Tank Natural Cleaning Experiment Gets Thumbs Up!

ABC’s Shark Tank Featured natural cleaning company Better Life and their All Natural Cleaning Products where owners Tim Barklage and Kevin Tibbs shared their cleaning experiment with the Sharks using a test for bacteria from raw chicken and their product against the leading chemical cleaner on the market.

Quite shockingly, the leading chemical cleaner, with all the hazardous warning on the label was horribly inept at killing the bacteria and returned test results way over the safe limit.

Better Life natural cleaning product was so much better and removed nearly all trace  of bacteria way below the safety limit.

The general and widespread notion is that you need a strong chemical spray to KILL the bacteria, but as the experiment showed. That just didn’t happen effectively.

The natural cleaning spray did much better and is safe for your household…even enough for one of the owners to spray the product in their mouth to prove it. Quite a display for a huge public television audience.

But, the idea of house cleaning is to remove the unwanted dirt and germs from the home and not just kill them and leave behind a chemical residue.

That is why I prefer the E-cloth microfiber cloths that work at a microfiber level to pick up bacteria and dirt and hold it trapped in the cloth until rinsed down the sink or in the laundry with hot water.

The same test for bacteria can be seen here in this video to show that E-cloth removes over 99% of bacteria from raw chicken from hard kitchen surfaces, just like in the Shark Tank Better Life experiment.

“Cleaning For a Reason” Controversy

“Cleaning for a Reason” is a great cause and it helps numerous people with cancer maintain their homes while suffering from this killer. But, some of the cleaning services may be contributing to the problem and not helping.

I know…pretty harsh statement. But, one of the leading causes of cancer in stay at home mom’s is the toxic chemicals used in house cleaning.

One of the scariest things ever written is this excerpt from a Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons study:

“Women who work at home have a 54% higher death rate from cancer than women working away from the home.”  A 15 year study concluded that it is directly linked to the toxic household chemicals in the home.

Naturally, then you would think that the cleaning companies on the “Cleaning for a Reason” website would offer all non-toxic cleaning services, especially as these women are in a place where their health is suffering and will be more susceptible to the dangers of the toxic chemicals.

But, that is not the case. Some of the cleaning companies boast of the Clorox and Easyoff and all the other chemical cleaning sprays and potions they use to clean with. Here is a bit of advice. If you spray that stuff in your home, on your surfaces, in your shower etc. and it takes your breath away…it’s probably not good for you.

As a professional house cleaner I can tell you that chemical cleaning products are just not necessary. There are plenty of non-toxic alternatives and even quality microfiber cloths and water can do the job just as well.

Many times people ask us to use their bleach based cleaners to make sure the germs are killed and I simply cannot do it.

As soon as I smell or inhale that stuff I feel it going right to my lungs and I wonder what the long term effects would be.

Why would you continue to use these substances when you know of the damage that they can do?

To me it is like smoking. If you know cigarettes are bad for you…why do you keep smoking?

Okay…I get that you are addicted to the nicotine, but does that mean you are addicted to chemical cleaners, or is it just ignorance and apathy to the fact that you are causing harm to yourself?

Cleaning for a Reason should put restrictions on the companies they let participate in the program to make sure they use all natural products.

Many of these companies use “green” cleaning products, which doesn’t mean they are safe for you at all.

It doesn’t take much to get a “green” label on products in a highly non-regulated market.

In fact, the “Simple Green” multi-purpose cleaner that many cleaning companies use is among the MOST toxic of all the products on the market and it carries that green label and says it is safe for you.

Tests prove otherwise.

The only cleaning that should be considered for this project should be NON-TOXIC.

Cleaning for a Reason is a great and worthy cause and it has helped many women have the peace of mind of a clean house when they are going though a very difficult time, but let’s be sensible about this. We don’t want to make matters worse than they are by filling the house with toxic chemicals.

Rant over!

Sorry for the controversy. Just had to get it out there!
