How a clean home can improve your health

This may sound quite strange but there are several ways cleaning your home can really improve your health, both mentally and physically.
If you suffer from a mental illness such as depression or are just feeling low, getting up and being active rather than sitting around feeling miserable is the best thing you can do. Exercise releases endorphins into the body which automatically perks us up and makes us feel more positive, so if you’re feeling down bring yourself out of the state by convincing yourself to do some housework and get active! How a clean home can improve your health Atlanta
That deals with the mental health side of your cleaning but making sure you have a nice clean home also benefits your physical health. A build-up of dirt can result in nasty bugs and bacteria living in your home, in places you wouldn’t think of. Below is a list of places that harbour bacteria:
• Light switches
Television remotes
• Toothbrush
• Salt and Pepper Shakers
• Keyboards on a computer or laptop
• The kitchen sink
• The bathtub
• Towels

Some of these places seem quite unusual but in regards to the light switches, television remotes, keyboards and salt and pepper shakers, people handle these on a daily basis. If you think about where people’s hands have been and the germs they have picked up during the day that are then spread…that’s a lot of dirt and bacteria. Wipe them all over at the end of each day with a disinfectant wipe and encourage people in your household to frequently wash their hands. For keyboards, you can also use a vacuum cleaner or air pressure to remove the pieces of food from in between the keys.
The bathtub harbours bacteria. You may think that the bathtub is the cleanest place in as house, as people are always using it and it has shampoos, conditioners and shower gels in it all the time, but think again. You may notice that after a bath there is usually a layer of dirt at the water line. This needs cleaning to prevent a build-up of bacteria, if not you will be bathing in dirt. Always rinse your bath down, even if you just use shower gel to give it a quick clean. Make sure everyone rinses it down after and makes sure it is spotless. There is also no harm in giving it a quick rinse before you hop in the tub either. How a clean home can improve your health Atlanta
The kitchen sink is also one of those places you may think is clean, as it is filled with washing up liquid but once again, this is incorrect. Bits of food can gather down the drain and around the plughole, some of which you may just leave or try and flush down. This is a nesting place for bacteria. Disinfection your sink and washing up bowl regularly and clean drains on a daily basis too. To disinfect your dish cloth, fill a bowl with hot water, add bleach and leave overnight-this will thoroughly disinfect the cloth ready for the next day. Clean cloths and towels in the washing machine on the hottest temperature to kill all germs.
Bacteria like to breed in a damp environment. Where better than a toothbrush that has just been use? Try and allow your toothbrush to dry between uses and replace it on a regular basis (especially after you have been ill). When you flush your toilet, make sure you close the lid as it ejects bacteria which can land on your toothbrush and no one likes the idea of this! Finally, when you have used your towel, DO NOT throw it on the floor and leave it damp. Always hang it to dry immediately after you have used it. This prevents bacteria breeding on the warm, damp environment. Always dry the shower curtain out too after usage and anything else that got wet.
If you remember these simple things, you will automatically have a much healthier home.

Halloween is over, so what next? Time for a deep house cleaning!

Ah…thankfully the Halloween day is past and in a couple of days the kids will get off the sugar high and you can pick up all the candy papers lying around the house. Now you just have a few weeks to get the house in order for Thanksgiving and a deep house cleaning is a must, especially if you have the relatives coming round.

deep house cleaning

Its time to do the dirty!

A deep house cleaning really gets into the nitty-gritty that a general weekly cleaning might not get. It is fine to wipe everything down and make your home feel a little cleaner and tidier, but you often leave the dusting of baseboards, scrubbing of the oven and washing the blinds out. That is why, every now and again you need to get a deep house cleaning and knock all the hard stuff out.

We are entering into the entertainment part of the year where Thanksgiving especially is a time to reunite families from around the world, or even just around the corner. You always want to put your best foot forward and create a clean environment for guests, but it is usually a stress for many hard working Moms and thinking about deep house cleaning is not something they look forward to.

No time for a Deep House Cleaning

A deep house cleaning can take quite a while depending on the size of your home. Even smaller homes require a good deal of time as all the jobs that you have been putting off for an eternity require too much time out of your busy schedule. Not only that, they are usually the tough scrubbing jobs too, and nobody looks forward to doing that!

Just the thought of tackling the kitchen alone with the stove, refrigerator, sinks and floor is enough to put it off for another day. Then you have the bathrooms with the heavy scrubbing for all that grime that builds up in your shower and around your toilet. You also have the whole house to consider getting the baseboards wiped down. That is a long time on your hands and knees for all the wrong reasons!

Doesn’t your back hurt just at the thought of it?

There is nothing like a good deep house cleaning though if you are looking for a good workout!

Fulton County Ga Jobs.

Finding Fulton County Ga Jobs can be hard, but one job that most people should be able to do is house cleaning.

There are already plenty of people offering house cleaning in Fulton county, but there are always people looking to have their houses cleaned and the majority of the cleaning is done by privately owned individual cleaning companies.

The great thing about starting Fulton County Ga jobs as a cleaning service is there is little barrier to entry and great reward if you can generate some long term customers.Fulton County Ga Jobs

To start out, you need to buy some supplies. Most important is a good and reliable vacuum cleaner.

Many of the cheaper vacuums are just that! Cheap and a waste of money. There is nothing worse than starting out and being in a home to clean and have your vacuum break down. This often happens because of over-heating, but it takes too long to cool again before it will start to work if you haven’t completely burnt out the engine.

So, unless you have enough money to buy two vacuums and carry a spare, then you need to spend a little more on a quality vacuum that will not break down so easily.

Customers are also looking for the best and HEPA filters are important to take the dust and dirt out of the air without circulating it back into the house.

An excellent vacuum is the Shark vacuum that you see on TV and can make payments on it. Will cost a little more in the long run, but it is a quality vacuum that compares well to the Dyson, which is what most other vacuums are compared to, but for half the price.

You also need a good broom, scrubbing brushes, and quality cloths and mops.

Microfiber cleaning cloths

Best microfiber cleaning cloths.

Total, you can expect to pay somewhere from $200-$300 dollars to get started.

You obviously need your own transportation and it is best to work in teams of two.

Search on Youtube for some house cleaning videos to see some of the things that you may not think about when cleaning someone’s house. It is a pretty common sense job, but there are always things you are going to miss if you are not an experienced house cleaner.

If starting your own Fulton County Ga Job as a cleaning service is not for you, then contacting some cleaning services in Fulton county might be a good idea to do a job that is simple and rewarding and offers great hours and decent wages.

Most cleaning service jobs are perfect for mothers looking to earn a little extra cash while the kids are at school.

Hours between 8am – 2pm are considered normal and generally two jobs can be done in this time so you can get back home and get the kids off the bus!

Payment can be by the hour, or by the job.

Hourly wages can be anywhere from $9-15 dollars an hour depending on your experience and quality.

Cleaning companies are often looking for team leaders as well as followers, who are great at just getting the job done.

Transportation may be needed for this type of job which you can get compensated for from the company with either a higher hourly rate or specific cost per mile.

This is just one idea for Fulton County Ga Jobs which is easy to start.

If you think you are qualified for a cleaning service job and are willing to work hard and qualified to work in the USA, then you can contact us here at Atlanta Eco Cleaners. We are always looking for qualified cleaners for jobs in Fulton County Ga.

“Cleaning For a Reason” Controversy

“Cleaning for a Reason” is a great cause and it helps numerous people with cancer maintain their homes while suffering from this killer. But, some of the cleaning services may be contributing to the problem and not helping.

I know…pretty harsh statement. But, one of the leading causes of cancer in stay at home mom’s is the toxic chemicals used in house cleaning.

One of the scariest things ever written is this excerpt from a Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons study:

“Women who work at home have a 54% higher death rate from cancer than women working away from the home.”  A 15 year study concluded that it is directly linked to the toxic household chemicals in the home.

Naturally, then you would think that the cleaning companies on the “Cleaning for a Reason” website would offer all non-toxic cleaning services, especially as these women are in a place where their health is suffering and will be more susceptible to the dangers of the toxic chemicals.

But, that is not the case. Some of the cleaning companies boast of the Clorox and Easyoff and all the other chemical cleaning sprays and potions they use to clean with. Here is a bit of advice. If you spray that stuff in your home, on your surfaces, in your shower etc. and it takes your breath away…it’s probably not good for you.

As a professional house cleaner I can tell you that chemical cleaning products are just not necessary. There are plenty of non-toxic alternatives and even quality microfiber cloths and water can do the job just as well.

Many times people ask us to use their bleach based cleaners to make sure the germs are killed and I simply cannot do it.

As soon as I smell or inhale that stuff I feel it going right to my lungs and I wonder what the long term effects would be.

Why would you continue to use these substances when you know of the damage that they can do?

To me it is like smoking. If you know cigarettes are bad for you…why do you keep smoking?

Okay…I get that you are addicted to the nicotine, but does that mean you are addicted to chemical cleaners, or is it just ignorance and apathy to the fact that you are causing harm to yourself?

Cleaning for a Reason should put restrictions on the companies they let participate in the program to make sure they use all natural products.

Many of these companies use “green” cleaning products, which doesn’t mean they are safe for you at all.

It doesn’t take much to get a “green” label on products in a highly non-regulated market.

In fact, the “Simple Green” multi-purpose cleaner that many cleaning companies use is among the MOST toxic of all the products on the market and it carries that green label and says it is safe for you.

Tests prove otherwise.

The only cleaning that should be considered for this project should be NON-TOXIC.

Cleaning for a Reason is a great and worthy cause and it has helped many women have the peace of mind of a clean house when they are going though a very difficult time, but let’s be sensible about this. We don’t want to make matters worse than they are by filling the house with toxic chemicals.

Rant over!

Sorry for the controversy. Just had to get it out there!

The Cleaning Authority Atlanta

What does it mean to be the cleaning authority in your town?

Well, Atlanta Eco Cleaners have the idea.

What sets us apart as the cleaning authority from some of the top cleaning companies in Atlanta is the fact we can offer superior service as well as keep the price low and competitive for all income levels.

We all need a little help now and again to keep our house clean and a quality maid service can do that for you. But, you want to be making sure you are getting a good deal as there are literally hundreds of cleaning services in Atlanta to choose from. The Cleaning authority

Generally speaking, you get what you pay for. On one hand, you may assume that the top national cleaning companies such as Molly Maid, Merry maids, The maids etc. are the cleaning authority in your market, which is generally true as they have big marketing budgets to capture your eyeballs and money. But, they generally come at the most expensive cost.

If you can afford to pay upwards of $80/hour for cleaning, then, with their checks and balances, they should provide a satisfactory cleaning on a consistent basis.

On the other hand there are the individually owned maid services in Atlanta that don’t have the same training and staff policies as some of the national companies. That is not to say that they can’t be the cleaning authority as many of these companies have been in business for 10+ years serving their loyal group of clients. In fact, the majority of house cleaning Atlanta residents use are these locally owned cleaning services. They generally come with a lower price tag and if you find a good couple of maids you can develop a great working relationship as you will hardly ever have a change of personnel to clean your home. Finding locally owned cleaning companies at the right price though is generally a trial and error ordeal, needing to go through 4-5 house cleaning services until you find one you are satisfied with.

It takes a little more time, but if you need regular weekly or bi-weekly cleaning service, then it would be well worth your while to go through the hiring experience and save $20-30 per clean over some of the cleaning authority maid services Google spits back in the search engine results.

Should you pay more for Green Cleaning in Atlanta?

Green cleaning is making the headlines nationwide and many companies like to charge more and claim they use green cleaning practices in their maid services. But not all green is non-toxic, which is the most important element in green cleaning products and even though these products are more expensive, is it fair to charge you more for a healthier clean?

Well, here is an alarming statistic from a recent study from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons:

“Women who work at home have a 54% higher death rate from cancer than women working away from the home.”  A 15 year study concluded that it is directly linked to the toxic household chemicals in the home.

The National Research Council reports that “No toxic information is available for more than 80% of the chemicals in everyday use products.”  Not only do you not know what chemicals you’re exposing your family to, there isn’t a way to find out.

Scary thought isn’t it?

That’s why people are switching to green cleaning, but even some of the green cleaners are just as toxic as the others. (it doesn’t take much to get a “green” label on products as there are hardly any regulations in this field either.)

So, how do you know what is safe?

The answer….

Water!

That’s right, water is about as safe as you can get.

e-cloth microfiber technology

But, how are you going to kill the bacteria with just water?

That is where technology comes in with the production of top of the line microfiber cleaning cloths from E-Cloth that have been tested to show time and again that, with just water, they remove over 99% of the bacteria from your surfaces.

Microfiber technology picks up and traps the bacteria as well as grease and grime in the cloth and is easily rinsed away under hot water down the sink for the cloths to be used again.

In fact, E-cloth was awarded best cleaning products in three different categories by Real Simple Magazine including best all round cloth.

Microfiber cleaning products

E-cloth rated best all round cleaning cloths.

So, should green cleaning be MORE expensive if you can use less product and just water?

Answer, no!

Although there is an expense in buying quality cleaning cloths and supplies, there is a decrease in the amount of actual green cleaning product used, so at Atlanta Eco Cleaners we feel it is savings passed onto our customers and not an excuse to jack up our prices.

The Cleaning Authority

So, with all that said, being the cleaning authority comes down to offering 3 things.

Fair Price – we don’t charge as much as the national brand names as we don’t have the advertising overhead or use as much product as other cleaning companies.

Family owned – we are a family owner company which means we take pride in our business and make sure every house cleaning is done with care from a hand picked staff of trained cleaning professionals

Free – we are free from toxins and ultimately a real green cleaning company. Our microfiber cleaning cloths from E-cloth are the best on the market and make our cleaning services the most efficient and highest quality as well as the safest for you and our staff.

Speed Cleaning Tips From Professional Cleaners

Here is a great article from Cynthia Ewer. We have a couple of things to add, but getting organised and treating house cleaning like a scheduled job, or task is the key to a continuously clean home.

Paid cleaning help can be a wonderful short-cut to a clean and organized home–if the household budget can stand the cost.

But what do you do if the Prize Patrol bypassed your door this year?

Take a speed-cleaning lesson from the pros!

Paid cleaning services are masters of the art of speedy, efficient cleaning. Watch professional cleaners at work: they don’t waste time, cut corners or dawdle over the job–and they know how to clean fast, clean right.

To speed cleaning chores in your organized home, take a tip from their copybook. Try these tips from professional cleaners.

Schedule Cleaning as A Job

Professional cleaners schedule every job, right down to the minute. Nobody hires a cleaning service that promises to arrive “some Saturday when nothing else is happening.” Take a tip from the pros, and set up a regular weekly cleaning schedule.

There’s nothing like the feeling of a completely clean home—but you won’t get it by cleaning in fits and starts! The pros don’t quit until the job is done, and neither should you. Schedule the job and stick to it to get the work done in record time.

Dress for Success

Professional cleaners dress for the job in comfortable, washable clothing designed for work.

Check out their supportive shoes and kneepads. Goggles and gloves protect against chemicals (we don’t use chemicals, but gloves are still a good idea to protect your hands from nicks and cuts), while a cleaning apron keeps tools and supplies at their fingertips.

Clean catch-as-catch can and clothing tends to catch it! End the era of bleach-stained sweatshirts and dripping nightgowns. Set aside a “cleaning uniform”, and wear it, right down to shoes, gloves and eye protection.

Invest In Proper Tools (the number one key to success)

Professional cleaners don’t use gadgets. You’ll never find them toting specialized, one-use tools, or gee-whiz gimcracks hawked on some television infomercial.

Forget flimsy supermarket cheapies, and invest in sturdy, well-made cleaning tools. Replace the rackety sponge mop with a terry-covered Magic Mop or Sh-mop for easy, efficient floor cleaning. (we use Quality microfiber cleaning cloths that take the germs and dirt out with them and not spread them around your house like all other cloths do. There is a huge difference in the quality of microfiber cloths too and I haven’t found one store bought cloth that can do the job of an Ecloth)

White terry cleaning cloths (find them in the auto parts section as “detailing towels”) are durable enough to stand up to walls, counters and floors, and are easy to launder in hot water and bleach. (these do an okay job at cleaning, but you still have to use chemicals to clean and kill germs. With Ecloth, you just need water!)

Pick It Up

Professional cleaners come to clean: counters, furniture, appliances and floors. They can’t do the job if each horizontal surface in the home is covered with papers, toys, dirty dishes and just plain clutter.

Pretend that you’ve hired a high-priced cleaning crew. You wouldn’t make them sweep the clutter to one side to do their job! Give yourself the same head start you give professional cleaners: pick up before you clean. Without the distraction caused by out-of-place items, cleaning chores will fly.

Tote Your Tools

Watch an average home manager clean the bathroom. Ooops! Forgot the powdered cleanser, so down the stairs you go. The toilet brush? It’s in the kids’ bathroom down the hall. Run to the laundry room for more cleaning towels, to the kitchen for a box of tissues. Where’s the vacuum? Did the teenager take the squeegee to wash the car?

Professional cleaners tote their tools with them–all their tools.

Look in the cleaner’s tote tray: all tools, cleansers, brushes and rags needed to finish the job are right there.

Vacuum, mop and mini-vac wait in the doorway.

A plastic bag for trash is tucked into a pocket, next to the waving feather duster.

That’s why the pro has finished the entire bathroom before our amateur makes it back up the stairs with the powdered cleanser.

(if you are going to clean your home regularly, there is no need to keep toilet brushes, chemicals and cleaning supplies in each room. Just one place is good for all rooms and should be kept in a bucket or tote.)

Simplify Supplies

There’s a reason professional cleaners can tote all the products they need in one tray: they’ve simplified cleaning products. Relying on a few multi-purpose solutions cuts time and clutter in the cleaning tote. Professional cleaners carry:

  • light-duty evaporating cleaner (glass cleaner or multi-surface cleaner)
  • heavy-duty degreasing cleaner
  • tile cleaner
  • powdered abrasive cleanser

That’s it! No soap scum remover, no special counter spray, no single-use products designed to clean only blinds or fans or walls. The pros know that these four simple products can handle any ordinary cleaning chore.

The reason we like microfiber cleaning cloths so much is that it cuts down the need for a special chemical cleaner for each job. You no longer need a bathroom spray, a shower spray, a kitchen spray, a polishing spray…all these things can be replaced with some quality cleaning cloths and a supply of water. Simple!

Get Motivated

You won’t find the pros pausing to follow television soap operas or check their e-mail. Amateur cleaners, too, should limit distractions as they clean. Turn off televisions and let the phone go to voicemail to stay focused on cleaning up … fast.

Use appropriate motivators to energize cleaning sessions. Play upbeat music for an energy boost (we love some upbeat music…really gives that extra oomph to get the job done!) Bookworms look forward to cleaning when a book-on-tape plays in the iPod.

Cleaning as a team with friends or family members can help you stay on task and ease the boredom of a cleaning session, so buddy up! Working with a parent is also the best way to teach a child skills he or she will need for life. (cleaning with help not only makes things go faster, but gives your family a sense of pride to keep it clean…so, you must get them involves if you want a continuously clean home)

Make Every Movement Count

Professional cleaners don’t circle a room more than once. Taking their place before the bathroom sink, they’ll spray and wipe the mirror, scrub the sink, wipe down counters and polish fixtures before they move one inch to the right or left.

Don’t get physical with your cleaning sessions—make every movement count. Stand fast and clean everything in your path before you move on.

Two Hands Are Better Than One

Professional cleaners don’t work as if one arm is in a sling, and neither should you. Get in the habit of using both hands to attack cleaning tasks.

Spray a mirror with one hand, wipe it down with the other. Scrub counters with two sponges or cleaning cloths, not just one. Dusting goes twice as fast when a lambs wool duster in one hand cleans nooks and crannies while the feather duster in the other skims flat surfaces.

While I agree that using two cloths to clean can make things go a little faster, it is also a good idea to keep one hand free to catch things in case they fall.

It is hard to catch a picture frame that suddenly falls from the wall if you have a bottle of cleaner in one hand and a cloth in the other.

You will have a lot more accidents if you don’t have one hand free…trust me!

Think Teamwork

Two people make a bed four times faster than a single cleaner working alone. Watch the pros at work. Working in teams, they make short work of an average home. (it only takes a couple of minutes to make a bed with two people. A lot longer with one. So, even if you are splitting up the work by room, it is good to take two minutes and help to save a few more overall)

Where family circumstances permit, make cleaning a family affair. Family members are more reluctant to mess up a clean house when they have been part of the effort!

Tidy Up for Next Time

At the end? Professional cleaners wrap up each job before they leave. Tools are returned to storage areas, totes tidied, spray bottles refilled and soiled cleaning cloths take a trip through washer and dryer. Goal: to be able to hit the ground running next time they visit.

Not knowing where all your cleaning supplies are is a hassle and will stop you from doing the job. So, if you need to use some supply during the week to clean up a little mess, make sure and put everything back to where it is supposed to be or you will be wasting time searching around the house for the broom/mop/cleaning supply.

Follow their lead!

At the end of each cleaning session, return tools and supplies to their storage places.

Check levels of cleaning products, noting any needed items on a shopping list; launder cleaning cloths and stow away the vacuum cleaner.

The finishing touch? Spritz the newly-cleaned home with scented room spray … and enjoy the squeaky-clean feeling!
